Problems You Have That We Can Solve

Storage tanks and silos must be ready-to-go to meet requirements like the annual harvest or seasonal fuel demand. Large crews accustomed to working in full and partial shutdowns will get you back to service fast.

Rust and other forms of corrosion are a key concern in tank and silo maintenance, as these structures are generally outside, with continuous exposure to operational wear and tear and inclement weather.

Contamination of stored materials is quite costly and damaging to business reputations. Well-maintained silos and tanks protect the lifeblood of your business and strengthen your link in the supply chain.

As vital assets in many industries like agriculture and energy, tanks and silos require regular maintenance to keep them protected and structurally sound for as long as possible, to avoid costly repair or replacement.

Workplace safety must always be top of mind, especially in high-risk industries that rely on tank and silo storage of potentially hazardous and flammable materials like fuel and chemicals.

We will ensure you are inspection-ready and compliant with OSHA, USDA, FDA, NSF, third party audits and any other applicable regulations and requirements.

Satisfied Tank and Silo Customers

Regular tank and silo maintenance to prevent costly repair or replacement.

Painters USA provides industrial cleaning and coating services for tanks, conveyors, sorters, huskers and other structures as part of a master agreement with the Crop Science division of this global enterprise. Added value is delivered through our assessment of maintenance priorities based on an A-B-C ranking schedule.

Project Highlights

Proper surface preparation using industrial methods like blasting or high-pressure washing ensures durable, long-lasting results by removing sludge and residue of any kind prior to new coatings. Safe, time-efficient methods guarantee fast return to service.

As exterior structures subject to operational wear and tear, UV exposure and harsh weather, Painters USA keeps Bayer’s tanks and silos in top condition using reliable industrial coatings from Sherwin Williams in a three layer process that includes rust encapsulation.

Tank and silo maintenance projects in the ag industry have a hard stop due to harvest schedules. Painters USA reliably meets all deadlines set by the company with project management expertise and 6-8 person crews working safely and efficiently together.

Tank, silo, and bin projects often involve working on 125-foot high towers or on units that are packed tightly together or near other buildings. Painters USA crews are accustomed to overcoming obstacles to work safely in confined spaces or areas without easy access.

Industrial tank services and remote location support for some 15 years

Growmark’s locations throughout rural Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and other states could be described as being in the “middle of nowhere.” Painters USA has been willing and able to serve these facilities, including restoration of aging structures and safeguarding the fuel and fertilizer contained in the company’s tanks.

Project Highlights

Rusting is a corrosive process that weakens exterior metal tanks, silos, and pipe racks. Our rust control experience goes a long way in helping Growmark contain this process to sustain operations and meet inspection and audit requirements.

With only certain exceptions, tank maintenance is performed during regular operations. Painters USA coordinates and manages our crews and shifts to accommodate the client’s scheduling requirements.

Along with rust prevention coatings and industrial painting in mostly white, we also do customized painting at the client’s facilities, including their logo and color-coding pipes to conform with OSHA and company standards.

As the company is in the fuel and fertilizer business, fire and explosion risks are high. We use non-spark tools and cleaning methods and our crews are well-trained and certified for a wide range of industrial safety topics.

Keeping dryer bins fully operational over 23 locations and counting

Starting in 2017 with one location in central Indiana, Painters USA now supports Corteva across multiple states with maintenance services for the company’s concrete seed corn dryers. They run only about 6 weeks per year, but these agricultural dryers perform a mission-critical function. Painters USA inspects and coats the roof, walls, ceiling, and conveyors to ensure they remain in top working order.

Project Highlights

Agricultural dryers must be ready for the fall harvest, which means all maintenance work is done during off-season downtime. Painters USA ensures crew readiness and availability to meet these scheduling requirements.

At about 12,000 square feet, corn seed dryers are massive concrete structures with high exposure to the elements—roofs are especially vulnerable to water penetration. With our extensive industrial coating and concrete expertise, the client is better able to manage maintenance priorities.

Since the company works with other contractors that specialize in dryer fans and roofs, Painters USA adds expertise and coordinates project workflow for optimal results. Painters USA’s assessment involves all coatings and caulking for the roof, walls, ceiling, and conveyors.

Painters USA’s first bid was competitive, and since then, we have delivered added value including an annual assessment of dryer conditions, our ability to service multi-state locations, and supplier diversity as a WBENC-certified contractor.

Achieve New Operational Standards

Our painting and restoration services not only improve the appearance of your tanks and silos but also reinforce your commitment to safety and compliance. Whether you’re facing inspection readiness concerns or seeking to enhance workplace safety, our expert team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Questions you should be asking

Choosing tanks made of materials that don’t rust, like fiberglass, may be the best way, but that’s not always feasible. Most tanks are made of steel, and steel is inherently susceptible, so regular inspection for early detection of problem areas, especially around bolts and fasteners, and timely maintenance to correct them is your best defense. Other recommendations:

Rust encapsulation is a process used to remedy signs of rust and inhibit future rust development. The first step is removal of loose rust, best done with high-pressure water, and then applying an encapsulating product on the clean, dry surface. This primer covers all remaining rust while blocking corrosive agents and penetrates the rest to provide an additional layer of protection.

Rust encapsulation for silos and tanks

Whether you have flat or domed roofs on your bulk material storage and processing tanks, it’s important to give them extra attention. Tank and silo roofs bear the brunt of sun exposure, rain, wind, and operational wear and tear, plus aging and foundation settling can create roof issues. You don’t want “out of sight, out of mind” on large tanks or those that tower high above the ground. Flat roofs are subject to ponding water, which can lead to leaks and water penetration that could damage stored materials. Regular inspection to catch and correct problems early is recommended. As for coatings, those with elastomeric properties are a good fit. They are many times thicker than paint and offer waterproofing and UV protection, as they bend without breaking as the tank or silo flexes.

Does your silo need a new roof coating?

Some tanks and silos hold liquids or gases that cannot get too hot or too cold, and in those instances, tank lining coatings can be an excellent alternative to expensive spray foam insulation, plus they are low VOC and environmentally friendly. Another process we can utilize is standing seam insulation, what has an advantage over membrane insulating systems, which are prone to punctures. Tank linings also help to reduce energy costs related to the cooling or heating of chemicals, oil, gas, ammonia, food products, and other temperature-sensitive materials.
